Position Title: Systems Engineer
Division: Network Services
Reports to: Manager of Network Services
Vivid Staffing is currently seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to design, implement, analyze, secure, and manage network equipment and supporting management systems. The ideal candidate will provide technical support for data communication and access through the IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity and security.
Academic and Trade Qualifications:
- Required: Associate’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- A combination of training and work experience may be substituted for the educational requirements.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data center and network operations, troubleshooting, and implementations.
- Network security experience is preferred.
- Strong Cisco routing and switching skills are required.
- Experience with Palo Alto and Cisco firewalls is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Develop project plans to test, configure, and troubleshoot network solutions.
- Create and maintain system documentation related to configurations and data flows.
- Recommend operational improvements to reduce maintenance costs, enhance operations, and avoid issues.
- Stay up to date on industry developments in computing, telecommunications, and utilities, identifying relevant impacts and opportunities.
- Maintain and troubleshoot routers, circuits, switches, firewalls, management systems, and other network equipment.
- Coordinate trouble calls with the Network Operations Center, telecom providers, and customers.
- Assess IT assets for compliance with security procedures and monitor for potential compromises.
- Develop and recommend technical and operational solutions to optimize departmental performance.
Job Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of network hardware, operating systems, applications, and datacenter operations.
- Strong understanding of documentation processes, operational procedures, project planning, and quality assurance techniques.
Abilities and Skills:
- Expertise in designing, implementing, analyzing, securing, and managing network systems.
- Ability to effectively interact with all organizational levels and provide support to business units.
- Aptitude for communication, with a focus on building and maintaining effective relationships both internally and externally.
- Well-organized, self-starter, and team player with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Relationships and Contacts:
- Maintain necessary internal relationships to achieve the position’s objectives and desired outcomes.
- Work cooperatively with other divisions and key partners to resolve operational challenges and meet corporate goals.
- Sustain necessary external contacts and provide prompt, courteous service to assist customers, vendors, consultants, and contractors in meeting objectives.
Working Conditions:
- Normal business hours with limited overtime and rotating on-call support as needed.
- Travel is generally confined to the state.
- The role may involve the lifting, moving, and installation of IT equipment weighing approximately 25 pounds.
